Leitz Thalia primes are rehoused modern Leitz primes designed for medium format still photography. Leitz placed these optics in new housings that are extremely well engineered as well as compact and light-weight.
They are made to cover sensors as large as 60mm x 60mm, so they easily cover Full Frame sensors. They are sharp, high contrast lenses that deliver very vibrant and accurate colors. They have little to no distortion, nor do they have much of any aberrations.
They have become a popular lens option for the Alexa 65, but they are well suited for Full Frame cameras as well.

These lenses are rehoused, modern, Leitz medium format still photo lenses. They are very sharp, very consistent, and free of aberrations. They are quite contrasty, and colors really pop.
Since they were made to cover the huge sensors of medium format still photography cameras, they easily cover the Alexa LF as well as the Alexa 65. Alexa 65 might be where they are more at home. When compared to Full Frame lenses, and super 35 lenses, Thalia primes are a bit slow, and there aren't any lenses wider than 24mm. So keep that in mind for your project.
Though the THALIA's are modern lenses, Leitz is one of the forefathers in cinema optics and you can see that in the characteristics of their "newer" THALIAs. They're accurate, sharp, incredibly well-made, yet not too "contrasty" with round, consistent bokeh which can be hard to find. With a huge fleet of nine focal lengths, Leitz is giving you a versatile family of lenses for almost any situation.
The Thalia Primes from Leitz inherit most of their optics from their medium format still photo line. While some of the focal lengths are newer designs, the set is pretty consistent. These are also unique among the lenses in this test since they cover formats far beyond FF/VV. Which may be difficult for some people to wrap their head around… The lenses were designed for “medium format” which is larger than “large format” cinematography (thanks ARRI).
