The Supreme Primes are the latest cinema lenses from Zeiss. They have excellent image quality, and almost every lens is a fast T1.5, yet they are very compact and very lightweight. The lenses are quite uniform in their look from the widest lens to the longest. They are sharp, high contrast lenses. They resist flaring and ghosts well, typical of Zeiss cinema lenses.

Some of my favorite modern lenses, Zeiss Supremes are a workhorse rad set of lighter-than-normal super-fast cinema lenses that do exactly what you tell them to do – there are no surprises here, as intended. And yet, they are still incredibly cinematic and creamy – a phenomenal pairing for any camera. The focus rolloff is nice and graduated, and the flares give you a nice milkiness that doesn’t draw a flare line end-to-end (a spot flare), but still has definition to it.
I’ve used these on a lot of commercials and comedies because, like I said, I know exactly what they are going to do, and they are great for pretty much every rig set up, so if you are going to be jumping between gimbals, handheld, cranes, and drones, these lenses don’t add much weight to negotiate around, and give a beautifully cinematic image. Plus, being full-frame, you don’t have to worry if they’ll cover your sensor. You can’t go wrong with the Zeiss Supremes – you can just go really really right.
To me, The Zeiss Supreme Primes are just that… Supreme. They are a great example of what Zeiss is capable of. The Supreme Primes are among the most well rounded set of motion picture prime lenses available.
They’re fast, compact, full frame, and can work on just about any camera thanks to their interchangeable mounts. The image quality isn’t brutal or clinical. It’s clean enough to be “sharp”, but still produces enough character to be a fantastic all around high speed cine prime. The build quality is also excellent. The Supreme Primes take the best mechanical design components of the Master Primes and Ultra Primes and marry them for a service friendly, robust lens.
Wow, these lenses are fantastic. Zeiss really stepped it up with the Supremes. They're sharp, consistent through the set, yet have enough character and beauty to them so as to not feel too clinical or "perfect." Renders skin tones beautifully with a gorgeous fall-off and appealing bokeh. Not to mention Zeiss also includes the XD functionality so that you can take advantage of any metadata needs for your post workflow! Don't miss out on this lens set! One of the best in its class.
