The Step-By-Step Guide to Creating Gear Packages

If you’re ready to make your gear even more convenient and attractive for potential renters, then combining your gear into packages is a great next step for your ShareGrid profile.

Here are some tips for creating desirable packages:

See What’s Out There

1) Have an Alexa Mini, a set of lenses, and some other camera accessories that could make a great package? Look through other Alexa Mini packages on ShareGrid to gain an understanding of how people package their gear. Keep an eye out for listings from Elite members, who often have the keenest eye for what rents well.

Get Organized

2) Create a spreadsheet for the packages you will be building to help you stay organized. We suggest including columns for package title, description, replacement value, photos, and rental price.

3) Start putting some basic packages together in your spreadsheet. Here are some easy formulas to start off with as examples (obviously, packages will look different depending on the gear you have):

- Camera w/ media, batteries, tripod

- Camera w/ media, batteries, follow focus unit, teradek

- Camera w/ media, batteries, follow focus unit, teradek, tripod

- Camera w/ media, batteries, lenses

- Camera w/ media, batteries, follow focus unit, teradek, monitor

- Camera w/ media, batteries, lens, audio equipment

- Camera w/ media, batteries, lens(es), follow focus unit, teradek, monitor, tripod, filters

- Mic, Filters, Lenses

- Drone w/ lenses, filters

- Drone w/ camera, lenses, filters

- Drone w/ lenses, filters, mic

Calculate Replacement Values

 4) As you start listing the gear in your spreadsheet for each package, be sure to look up the replacement value of each item, and add up those replacement values for each package— you’ll need this for your replacement values column. It’s important to set this accurately, to make sure renters have enough coverage to rent your package.

 Fine Tune Package Pricing

6) Research the market on ShareGrid to decide on a competitive rate for the package you’re offering. This is where searching in your local area is particularly important, because pricing varies significantly between cities, and based on demand. You can see tips on pricing your gear in our blog post, The Step-By-Step Guide to Competitively Pricing Your ShareGrid Gear.

7) Decide on the photos you are going to use for your packages, as well as catchy titles for each package. For photos, try and show all the gear in your package in the photo, as seen below. This makes shopping quickly easier for renters. Ideas for this step can also be found in the article above.

Publish

8) The final step! Publish your new packaged listings and watch the rentals roll in. It’s that easy!
