A bit about myself, I've been doing video work since 2007 when I graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle with a degree in Video Production.I freelanced all kinds of projects including feature-length films (I have a couple IMDb credits), music videos and live recordings, commercials, corporate video work, live sports broadcasting (I spent a memorable MMA fight 50 feet up in a cherry-picker that would sway just a little bit when I panned the big broadcast camera around!), and documentary films including following a band out the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and a winter spent shooting splitboarding in 2012/13 when the discipline was in its very early days.
I moved back home to Alaska in late 2013 really focused on developing my photography skills. In early 2014, I started working at The Hoarding Marmot and quickly started photographing the gear that came through the shop and eventually built a studio for product photography work with a heavy emphasis on product on white. I currently have a small home product studio and I recently started working part-time at Stewart's. I shoot primarily on my Sony A7rIV and am familiar with many different camera types.
I want the outdoors and nature to be a big part of the work I do. I have my WFA (WFR soon), AVY 1, SAR experience, have guided Northern Lights trips with Greatland Adventures, and guided hikes, snowshoeing, and week-long backpacking trips with Hike Alaska. In 2017 I hiked the 1,200 mile Pacific Northwest Trail in 61 days and in 2019 I bikepacked 3200 miles from Seattle to New Jersey in 31 days.
You can see a bunch of my work on my website, www.tylermyatesphotography.com, I have a bunch of prints up at The Hoarding Marmot, a 16-foot wide print hanging up at the Midtown Mall (near the REI entrance) and I had couple photos get in to this year's Alaska WILD gallery (we'll be hanging the prints at Summit Spice and Tea on the 27th).
